Paddy Tax and Apple freaks

The CEO of O2 Ireland endeared himself to his customers last week when he said “I’d say your Apple freaks will be queuing out the door when we launch”. The CEO must have taken a leaf from Gerald Ratner’s guide to marketing.

The comments were made as O2 Ireland are launching the iPhone, but there’s a considerable ‘tax’ on the Irish consumer over the O2 UK package. Pat posts a press release from RTE on the subject and TechCrunch UK and Ireland also picks up the story too.

There’s just a blatant disregard for the customer here and with quotes from the CEO like that, the disregard for the customer starts at the top.

Quick correction, the CEO in question, Danuta Gray, is a lady.

You are dead right about the pricing though.

I’d also be very surprised if anyone is queuing out the door to get their hands on the iPhone, given that early adopters (people who MIGHT queue up) have been able to buy the device for around 300 Euro ever since it was launched in the US.
