another King Ed post

I first started reading about this over at Telepocalypse, but I heard Adam mention it a few days/weeks back in one of his podcasts. But here’s the full article from Business Week.


The Internet can’t be free in that sense, because we and the cable
companies have made an investment and for a Google or Yahoo! (YHOO
) or Vonage or anybody to expect to use these pipes [for] free is nuts!

I think King Ed has got it a bit messed up. For the traditional Goolge and Yahoo web pages (the WWW application) it’s the consumer that pays Ed for the right to access them and Ed get’s that broadband revenue. Voice is just another application to be used as email is an application.

Does he want to charge email providers for using his pipes too?
